Move over Michael Jackson. Justin Beiber is the new king…of U.S. music film box office sales. The Bieb’s concert Never Say Never has overtaken the King of Pop’s This Is It as the most successful concert-themed movie domestically.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Justin Bieber has earned $72.2 million at the domestic box office while the state-side grosses for Sony’s This Is It were $72.1 million.
In 2009, Jackson had taken the crown from Miley Cyrus whose Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour film earned $65 million in the U.S.
But in true Jackson style, Michael is still king of the globe, holding the world record for grossing $189.1 million overseas, giving his film a global total of $261.2 million.
